COMMENTS:
Bike/Walk path throughout all of Germantown – not just the newly constructed subdivisions.
My taxes raised $3500.00 last year. With all the new construction and prices of these homes I would think my taxes should drop. I like the village, but the percentage of taxes going to the schools is out of hand. So to raise my taxes for parks, no thanks.
Nothing should be added, taxes are high enough as they are. As a person retiring within 3 years maybe I should be looking to move. What your suggesting will only raise my cost of living with these improvements.
No new taxes! Keep walkers/runners off of Holland Road. This is a safety hazard. Walkers/runners very, very hard to see when dark.
I strongly support pedestrian right of ways along the major traffic areas. Along Rt. 116, Fandel Road, and around Jubilee shopping center. This is something everyone of the Village can use and enjoy and increase safety.
In my opinion, the walk/running/bike paths are essentially the same things. It would be nice if they existed throughout the village as well as all the way to Metamora. Softball diamonds should say baseball diamonds to infer they can be used for both softball and baseball. I think it is imperative that you support the GHAA in buying land to build new athletic facilities.
We would like to see batting cages put in and maybe miniature golf would be nice and $ for the Village.
I feel that there are enough parks in the area for our children but not a safe way for them to get there. If my taxes were to be used for anything, I would ask for curbs/sidewalks/bike trails in the community.
Taxes are extremely high as it is. It wouldn’t cost a lot of money to create a network of paths for walking/running/biking. I would volunteer to help to keep costs down.
Our taxes are much higher than many communities that have nicer parks than we do- lets find out who’s wasting all our current taxes. Our taxes are already high and we don’t have many of the amenities of other local cities with lower taxes. Lets do an audit and find out why we don’t have parks, sidewalks and streetlights. We certainly pay enough to have all these things now. Otherwise, we need to let more taxable businesses move into the area to help pay for these things. We can allow business and still be a great small community.
The taxes here are already unbelievably high.. We recently had a house for sale and the asking price was great, but way too many young couples could not afford the taxes even though they loved the house. We have a large and growing population in GTH. We need to ensure services are provided, families welcomed, but do not raise taxes. Our population is growing, the tax base is growing, the number of households paying taxes is growing—so why are taxes already so high? There are very few, if any sidewalks in GTH. We have to walk on roads. Its getting very busy in GTH and more and more dangerous to walk on roads. It would be nice to get information regarding where our tax dollars are spent.
I would support a park district for simply sidewalks throughout our area! Grandview Drive is a sidewalk park that I admire.
It would be nice if we as a village would take better care of the features we have already. One topic that needs to be addressed is the duties of mowing. The first thing you see when entering is that we do not take care of our landscaping. Either hire kids in the summer to do it or hire a part-time adult through these months. Before we add anymore features, lets take care of others first.
Thank you for offering this opportunity to express an opinion.
With no sidewalks in the village-- specified walking paths throughout the village are a top priority.
We don’t need more parks. Walk/run/bicycle path would be awesome especially down Fandel.
Fandel Road needs a sidewalk before someone dies. Pedestrians are not safe. I see people walking with strollers and small children on Fandel Road. Let’s not wait for an accident to install sidewalks for safety!
I am aware of 2 parks, White Oak Lake’s park is great now that it is updated. The other park is in dire need of improvements. Don’t we pay already enough taxes. I believe sidewalks would be nice as far as walking to/from parks. It seems that 2 parks are enough, just improve on the current locations. It seems White Oak Lake park is fairly busy, but the other park is empty and run down-play equipment doesn’t even look safe!
We need a pool in Germantown Hills!!
The parks we have are lovely for families with small children but are not adequate for older kids/teens or adults. There are many walkers, joggers, bicycles, baby buggy pushers on our streets, it’s unsafe for them. A path for that actively would be welcomed. Thanks for taking this into consideration.
Sidewalks would be very beneficial due to the increasing numbers in the population, especially with the 2 schools being on both sides of the highway. Being able to walk to the schools for events, playground, etc. would be very nice.
We definitely need something for the older kids to do. It seems like every night, there’s another smashed mailbox or destroyed property. Woodford County cops are very good at responding but I think we need a full-time cop, especially on the weekends. Also, there should be a law about letting cats run loose. They are a big nuisance and dogs especially when they climb up your car and slide down again leaving claw marks.
The community needs to get out of the dark ages, when it comes to issues like parks and business development, we are considering a move out of the community for these reasons!
Definitely in need of a bike/walk path along Fandel Road from the grade school to Hickory Hills road for kids going to and from school, this is a definite safety issue with the increased traffic along Fandel Road.
Holland Road should have a paved shoulder at least on the park side. Too much traffic for the narrow lane. There’s been too much development permitted for Holland’s narrow "country" lane.
To maintain the clean, open, county, like appearance of our village—we need none of the aforementioned to clutter our open environment where business advertising is regulated to the point, it discourages any new business.
I am a retired senior citizen and I am on a fixed income so I do not wish to have any tax increased. I am paying a sewer bill, which as a single person is comparable to a family residence.
Great need for side walks on Holland Road!
Simple sidewalks/trails to park areas would be a great start-Holland Road, specifically.
Would focus on building tax base through business expansion before raising real estate taxes. Also consider impact fees and better residential planning to include parks or open areas as part of the subdivisions.
I pay $7000.00 in taxes now!
Several seniors have had to move from this area due to high taxes. Please keep this in mind when considering increasing our taxes.
My opinion, parks supplemented by primary and middle schools provide adequate facilities. Would like to see sidewalks along Holland for kids and parents with infants in strollers also some type bike path on Hickory Hills.
Illinois has a ridiculous number of separate taxing bodies. We think it’s time to stop being proud of GH "country look". Instead, the Village Board should recognize that this is becoming a crowded community. Our roads are narrow and lack of sidewalks and bike paths. Kids from Coventry Farm and Fandel Farm should be able to walk to school. We should spend more money on sidewalks and walking/bike paths, and less on school buses. And the kid’s health would benefit.
We pay almost $6000.00 a year in taxes. I do not want to pay more taxes.
Taxes are too high now. This is the country.
We could use a safe and fun place for the teens to hang out. There is little for them to do here.
Why can’t Germantown Hills have a post office branch of it’s own. How about something in or next to Jubilee?
We pay very high taxes and receive little or no services. If more stores were allowed to open it would be easier to support "local" shopping. We often can’t find items we need and usually go to Washington because we know they will have what we need. It’s hard to support a "village" does not appear to have it’s residents best interests at heart. Between high taxes and outrageous water bills, living in Germantown Hills leaves a lot to be desired.
As a former member of the "start up" group that got the White Park up and running, I feel there is always a need for more parks. As far as expanding our community and to attract more families to the area, if "you build it, they will come". If this park board becomes a reality, I would be willing to help!
Leverage the school grounds for some of the needs. Quail Meadows is putting a very nice chipping and putting area. That is only 5 miles away and I am an AVD golfer. Let the professionals take care of the golf facilities in the area.
Recreation equipment is not a priority. A committee should be formed to look into Police protection and grants that our available. We have lucrative homes in the area as well as lucrative residents. This should be your priority. Another constructive thing that can be done is to prevent parking on both sides is the street on Holland when their our sports activities at that park this will help out to impede traffic.
We have enough things. I would rather see the dollars spent on full-time police to cut down on the vandalism that has increased the last few years in White Oak! P.S. How about letting a Kentucky Fried Chicken move in our area?
We’re new to area and glad to see this survey, because we’re definitely interested in more parks……..hiking trails would be nice as well. Also, wouldn’t mind more frequent communications from you than just once per year. Any chance of getting a sidewalk on Woodland Knolls between Forrest Drive and Jubilee? It’s a shame we can’t safely walk to the stores of Germantown Hills. We’d pay higher taxes for that as well, Thanks for you soliciting our input.
I think before any parks are added you need to consider putting sidewalks on the main roads such as Fandel, Timberlan, etc. so that kids can safely get to the parts. I think they would get more use. I know I don’t even like walking down Fandel Road with them. Then I think the park on Sunset should be fixed up before additional parks are put in. If all of this were accomplished then I would consider adding things to our current parks and maybe increasing our parks.
There needs to be a sidewalk on Fandel Road so kids and families can be safe walking to school and to the new parks.
Community Center with pool! Service county if not community.
There are a lot of people who walk and ride bikes on the street. I think this can be hazardous, especially at night, since it is difficult to see the pedestrians at night and am concerned someone may be struck by a car.
I’d love to have a bike path- without sidewalks, our streets are too busy for kids/families to ride bikes on. We enjoy the renovated White Park-great improvement to our neighborhood.
The Germantown Hills village should allow small business and industry into the area to support all these programs everyone wants. This would reduce the tax burden on homeowners. The village needs to be more interested in acquiring building codes and building inspectors. The house values will start dropping once the reputation of the poorly built houses in the area is circulated through area (Peoria) businesses.
The absolute priority for this village is footpaths to connect the houses, schools and shops. This community fails because it is not possible to walk or cycle anywhere.
The GHAA is suppose to be purchasing 20 acres for soccer, baseball and softball diamonds. Where’s the land coming from that these paths would come from?
We do not have enough parks and I would like to see more. However, our property taxes are already ridiculously high compared to other places I have lived. I have no idea why our taxes are so high- our roads in Coventry Farms are very poorly maintained.
Should coordinate plans with what GHAA is trying to do.
We appreciate having the ability to participate in this process. Making this a "buy-in" process should allow this proposal to be received better. Making the park fair and balanced will be most challenging.
Require all new subdivisions to include a certain percentage of the land to be used as village parks. Making the new subdivisions pay for expanding the water treatment and schools is a good idea too. Each of these ideas is done in many states.
The area by Jubilee is a great park along with play areas at the schools. Most who have their homes bought do not want parks near their home or next to their home. Most parks could end up being places for unsupervised kids- drugs, vandalism-YES-here in Germantown! Do you want a park in your back yard or next door? Unless the Village is willing to pay the entire cost of fences. No parks in residential areas and the noise in a residential area wouldn’t be appreciated. I’m guessing property values would go down depending on where the park is located or Germantown over all value go up if the park is in the right place.
We need green areas and more sports/rec. areas like baseball field, soccer fields tennis courts, basketball courts (outdoors). I believe some of this can be done on a volunteer basis, just like the funding campaign going on at this time with baseball/soccer area by the state police.
The biggest mistake this village ever made was to not put in any sidewalks. That should have been a no-brainer.
We have enough taxes already, get more business for a tax base, parks do not generate income, they cost.
I feel we pay enough taxes right now and should be getting more for what we are paying for before raising our taxes.
My family just moved into the Fandel Farms subdivision and we have no access to a Village Park. Fandel Road is not something I would push a stroller on. At the end of Wildflower Road would be a perfect place to put one, but anywhere in this subdivision would be nice.
We would pay $2000 more on taxes to have walking paths to schools and parks. It is sad that the children in Germantown Hills cannot walk or ride their bikes. That’s why we are selling this year. This is more of an older person retirement community. The children in Germantown Hills try to ride their bikes in the streets where cars pass fast. The curbs on Holland Road in the grass have a drop off to the lake, so dangerous! Children are to play only in their backyards as the parks are usually reserved for sports events. How sad.
I have several times almost hit pedestrians on the road, jogging or walking their dogs at night. Germantown Hills needs to change, or lose child centered families.
We would much rather see any money put into some better signals at the crossing of Woodland Knoll and Rt 116. We think it is very important that left turn arrows be added when turning from Woodland Knolls onto 116 going towards Metamora. Also, on the opposite side turning onto 116 going towards E. Peoria. It is very dangerous area and seems to be getting worse with all the extra traffic. We have plenty of parks and do not utilize the ones we have as much as we should. Perhaps everyone should slow down and remember that there are lots of children in our area and the subdivisions would be much safer. We know the speed limits are not obeyed. Many people don’t even stop at the stop sign near us. Our taxes are high enough with the middle school adding on all the time. Plus the new subdivisions get fresh black top while we still get the old tar and rock routine. When are we going to get fresh new black top on Grandview Way?
Our taxes here are as high as some of the suburbs of Chicago/Aurora, where we have lived in the recent past. Yet we have nothing to show for where these exorbitant tax dollars are going. Up north, we saw biking/walking/running paths, sidewalks near schools, nice playground equipment, etc. Where does our money go? I have emailed concerns/comments to our mayor (Village President) and did not get even an acknowledgement of receipt of my email. I have not been impressed with the management of this village. I hope somebody is really reading this.
Very dissatisfied with road maintenance. Our road was oiled and oil still on lower part of driveway, loose gravel in the street and poorly done.
The school playgrounds, which are supported by tax dollars, provide sufficient recreational facilities. We do not need any reason to raise taxes.
Getting a walking /bike path is so important. Our children, grandchildren have no safe way of getting through the village on their bikes.
The residents of Germantown Hills, a wonderful community I might add, do not want any higher taxes. Our water and sewer rates are amongst the highest in the tri-county area. I know we pay those expenses separate from our taxes, but they are still an expense to the residents to be able to live here. On the reverse side of this survey sheet were listed several "WANTS" for the community. How were these going to be paid for? If there is extra monies in the coffers for these things…. I strongly suggest that this money be set aside I a fund to go first for our NEEDS….not our WANTS! If we don’t have any NEEDS now a fund that can go towards those needs instead of having to raise our taxes to meet them. We need fiscal responsibility in our community…something that most towns, states, etc. don’t have. I have only checked off one option on the list, as it would be more for the seniors in the community as most things in our parks are geared toward the younger group. This option came closest to being a need and not a want. We do appreciate your thinking about this topic enough to send out this survey sheet asking for our opinions on all.
We love this community! The number one thing we wish we had is a bike path making it safe for our family to take bike rides together. We would greatly appreciate it is a new walk/bike path is put in—in the near future.
I only know of 2 parks- White on Holland, which looks great now, and the small, sorry one near the elementary school. If walking/running/bike paths aren’t feasible, please consider a sidewalk-type lane on the busiest streets’ so many people walk/walk dogs, and it seems so dangerous. Or the speed-control bumps installed in the road?
The property taxes here or overwhelming. I will be moving to another area as the opportunity arises.
Required sidewalks in new developments would be very nice.
We badly need sidewalks or walking paths on some of the main roads like Holland. The current situation is dangerous, as there are many walkers, runners, and bicycles with some cars going at high speed.
Without sidewalks, walking and biking are not safe in Germantown.
For our area I feel we have enough playground areas. More soccer fiends but with respect to GHAA’s expansion. Bike/Walk ways are my #1 priority both are a safety issue and a recreation advantage to draw more people to the area.
Most important-sidewalks on Holland and Fandel Road and 116 to Middle School.
I would be very interested in a municipal golf course. I believe even a shared revenue project between Germantown and Metamora would receive greater support.
I don’t know the need for sporting events. However, since we don’t have sidewalks and we have many adults walking or jogging, we need a place to safely do that…either through a park or throughout the village. The new equipment and landscape at White Park is very nice. However, parking and people walking on the streets during summer games is very dangerous. It is an accident waiting to happen. There has to be some solution. Perhaps the games should go to a new park and this one should be for jogging trails, picnic grounds and children playing.
There needs to be some way for pedestrians or bike riders to travel the village streets safely. Population growth in the area, particularly down Forest Drive and on Woodland Knolls is going to result in someone getting seriously hurt. It’s only a matter of time. I’d rather see village money spent on a bike route or sidewalks to allow safe pedestrian travel and around the village and to Jubilee.
We feel that we already pay enough taxes to support parks. We are new to Germantown Hills and would like to see a breakdown on your web site of where our tax money goes. Also snow removal is very slow to clear residential streets.
If sewer wasn’t so high, it might not be so bad paying extra for parks. Sewer fees are ridiculous.
Walking paths, similar to that proposed in Coventry Farm, should be provided and maintained by the village. Neighbors from adjoining and nearby neighborhoods will be using the pathways in addition to those in the neighborhood it is placed.
We need more clean businesses to support the village with taxes.
I am single with no kids. I work three jobs so I can’t even remember going to a GH park- or any other, for that matter. I don’t have time. However, it would be very nice if I could ride my bike from the middle school to Jubilee without having to ride on 116. A small path that connected the frontage roads on the south side of 116 would be wonderful. It would also be cost effective since the frontage roads are already there. We would only need to pave from GH well drilling to the area near Kouri’s Grille & Bar. This would allow people to ride or walk along a 5’ – 6’ wide path away from the traffic on 116. I see kids riding on 116 to get to school. I’d like to see them riding safely on a path. Once that path connected the frontage roads. A person could walk or ride all the way from the middle school to the top of GH hill and never touch 116. This plan is cost effective too.
Need to widen Fandel Road or a bike path. Several runners and children on bikes use this road.
Village streets are not pedestrian friendly. More walking paths would be great.
What the village needs is a service that will pick up yard waste. I would be will to pay for this. We also need a "junk day" in spring and fall when anything will be picked up. Other communities have this including Spring Bay and East Peoria. I have lived here 12 years and have yet to see a notice of a Village Board Election. Ballots are not available at Worth township as I was told by the Village employee. We need a post office. None of our Whispering Oaks neighbors have voted either. They don’t know when elections are held or where to go to vote.
We need a way to walk safely to the businesses the Village would like us to support. Especially, Hoffman, Holland, and Fandel roads. Schools/JR White has plenty of play equipment. I live near JR White not used as much as you’d think. Police don’t respond when called regarding vandals-they should show up around 11pm in summer there’s always someone out there. Neighborhood surrounding parks should be consulted prior to changes, we have to do that before building, etc. the parks aren’t any different. We should not have taxes increased so GHAA can build a bunch of baseball/soccer fields, how about a quality library? If we continue to build parks for unsupervised kids, GH will someday resemble Pekin, when instead we should be striving more for a "Dunlap" demographic.
Thanks for asking and for all you do to keep our village nice!!
We are new to GH, moved from Peoria and we love it here!! We would like to see a shopping center/sports center being developed in this area. One concern is the latchkey program at GH schools- we need to hire more staff so there’s no waiting list. We had a hard time getting after school care all day care centers were full and not appropriate for middle school kids. Another issue we have, we live in the new subdivision of Coventry Farms and we need street signs up and roads developed to the other end it has caused problems for garbage pick up and bus routes to pick up children in our subdivision. We’ve also encountered problems with MediaCom, 2 months without a phone, and we realize this particular issue is not affiliated with the Village. I would like to see Community Events in GH such as Funshops like ICC has but more for GH/Metamora area.
You need more parks for family activity. Walking trails and a dog park would be exceptional.
If we need anything else in Germantown Hills it would be more restaurants and maybe a commercial drug store and more shopping in general. Restaurant suggestions: Steak and Shake, Mimi’s, Blimpie, Velvet Freeze or a nice steak house.
With the increase in population in the village walking and bike paths are essential for the safety of the residents who are looking for exercise or simply getting from A to B.
There are a lot of walkers/bikers/runners in Germantown. The frontage road along 116 is about the only safe place relatively to do that and you still have to dodge cars. Germantown has no sidewalks and no shoulders along many of the streets. I live on Mackenzie and I either have to drive to the frontage road or get on Holland, which is taking your life in your hands with the increased traffic. But I still think that coming up the hill to Germantown is like ascending into heaven.
Would like to see Oak Grove Park updated. Equipment is outdated and possibly a safety hazard.
My taxes have went up 400% since I moved here 19 years ago. We are on fixed incomes and can’t afford more unnecessary taxes. Let all of these rich people in $400,000.00 homes pay for what they want.
The park at Oak Grove is not always well maintained. At times it is broken and dangerous, i.e. merry-go-round and the teeter-totter. We would also love to have the ability to walk to the other park without walking near cars going 45mph. A walking path would be great.
Valuable additions to the community would be walking/biking paths. Many areas lack sidewalks for safe walking or biking.
We are in desperate need of more park space. The village board needs to take responsibility. Lack of planning has created this situation.
Allow more food establishments to open in this area.
Instead of parks or park equipment please give us some police protection for speeders on Woodland Knolls Road. The speed most people drive on Woodland Knolls Road is much too fast and very dangerous! Please help before another person is killed.
We appreciate the time and hard work Marvin Johnson and the village board dedicates to Germantown Hills. Thank you for your willingness to serve.
We need sidewalks or at least gravel, pebbles along the edges of main streets for walking, exercising. Holland Road is a nightmare! You can’t even get to the White Park with a bike or by walking without going down the street with cars whizzing on both sides. You walk in the ditch. Why have additional parks if you can’t access the one we have only by car? We will see someone getting hit on Holland Road while trying to get to his or her softball game on foot or by bike.
This community has already excessive taxes, excessive resources and excessive material possessions. We need nothing. Our money should be going to those who have nothing. "Of those who have much, much is expected."
Having a path for walking and/or running would be nice since our streets are too dangerous not having sidewalks.
We are trying to pay our Cilco increase; we need no new taxes.
We have no police protection. Emergency 116 needs funding which is more important than parks.
A sidewalk path along Holland for all the walkers and joggers would increase safety. Possibly make a sidewalk rectangle-Holland, Hickory Hills, Fandel and the roads by the fire station.
We have plenty of parks in this area. Our current park is empty most of the time. Most children have playground equipment in their own yards. We don’t need more taxes we need less.
Because it is unsafe to walk/ride on some roads many people do not. If safe paths were available, many more people would walk/ride to the park etc. Something needs to be done with the intersection at Woodland Knolls and Holland. With the increased traffic through the area it has been become hazardous to get through.
I would love to see Oak Grove Park be updated. We have been waiting since last summer to see the merry-go-round would ever get fixed. There is a group of us that live in the neighborhood that like taking our kids there. I am just disappointed that no one seems to care that things don’t get fixed. We have all called to let you know. Please do something for the kids!
I just re-read the winter 2007 report for Village of Germantown Hills. I’ve lived here almost 10 years, enjoy it, nice quiet area, and I shop at Jubilee grocery store. Which I can see from my bedroom windows, also like the Dollar Store in the same strip and the restaurant too.
First off- thanks for asking before just doing. Of course, all would be great however, our taxes are high enough. I have lived here 21 years come July and I still have an unfinished road. My taxes started at $1100 now over $3000 and I have not seen much improvement for the amount of additional homes. Something really needs to be done for all the joggers on Holland Road, someday someone is going to get hit. The bikers have the same problem and it keeps getting worse.
Allow more commercial/retail businesses to generate tax revenue rather than expecting residents to carry the entire tax burden. We moved here recently from a similar community who 10 years ago decided they wanted to make their town more "family friendly". They made changes slowly and wisely as they allowed more commercial businesses to carry the tax burden. They now have unique shops and restaurants but have maintained their small town flavor. We lived in a house valued at 100K more than our home in Germantown Hills. Our taxes on our previous home were almost half of those We had a community pool, tennis courts, basketball court, and playgrounds. Sidewalks and lighting throughout our entire subdivision. It is frustrating to see so much residential development being allowed here without the amnenites of community it is obvious that the school district should receive the credit for making Germantown Hills so desirable. It is why we are here. Kudos to Joe Stieglitz and the Board of Education.
GHAAA is a strong organization with a lot of community support I believe it would really benefit their program to have a park district and additional resources.
Morton has a dog park and it is very successful. Would highly recommended.
I am new to the Germantown Hills area, June 2006, and have not utilized all of the areas park resources. I am very concerned about the high property taxes and would not support any increase.
Bike/Walk paths to schools would be wonderful. There are way too many kids on the roads through the subdivisions traveling to and from school and by the way, they’re not exactly paying attention to the cars. I would enjoy a walking path tremendously for myself as well. We should connect some of the disconnected subdivisions that comprise Germantown Hills with a bike path.
-Keep landscaped areas clean and free of weeds.
-Maintain existing buildings and grounds.
-Existing sports fields in JR White Park seem too small for kid population e.g. baseball and soccer games.
Our village needs more businesses and retail shops, even a gas station for a tax basis. Also, how about charging a permit fee on all new construction in our village to be used for parks. Also, require all developers to set aside 1-2 lots in every new subdivision for neighborhood parks. Germantown Hills is not a pedestrian friendly community.
People are traveling from Germantown to Washington, East Peoria and Peoria to use their walking/biking trails. This is a shame! Especially with no shoulder on Holland and Fandel Roads it’s very dangerous to walk, run and bicycle in Germantown. Also, it’s a shame there is no recycling of wastes in Germantown. I promote the "small town" feel, but oppose "old fashioned" thinking of just throwing away instead of recycling.
